HOW IT WORKS

The Assessment Process

STEP 1:
Intake & Consultation
The Intake process allows our team to get you started. This includes a 15-minute consultation, at no cost.

You will be meeting with a team member to discuss the following items:

  • Discuss your reason(s) for undergoing an assessment.
  • Learn more about your goals for your assessment.
  • Learn more about what is involved in the assessment process.
  • Determine if we’re a “fit” for each other.
  • If our services are appropriate for your goals, we will also review scheduling and assessment booking.
STEP 2:
Assessment
Depending on the assessment type, it is anticipated that you will participate in one to three appointments to engage in clinical interviews and standardized testing. It is important to note that at Northern Elm Assessment and Treatment, we work with you and go at your pace. This means that at times, sessions may be shortened and/or additional appointments may be added.
  • Complete standardized psychometric questionnaires (from yourself and others, if appropriate), as well as consent and intake forms.
  • Provide any report cards and/or past psychological / psychiatric / psychoeducational assessment results that you may have, as well as any other relevant health records.
  • Meet with our clinical team for a comprehensive clinical interview.
  • If applicable, undergo 1 – 3 days of standardized testing.
STEP 3:
Results & Recommendations
For many individuals, this is where the journey really begins! During your results (feedback) session, you can expect to meet with a member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) to review the assessment results and if applicable, any recommendations and next steps.

If you are a parent/caregiver who has a child undergoing an assessment, we would be more than happy to set up a separate meeting (at no cost) to review the results with your child in an age-appropriate and strengths-based way.
  • Review overall assessment results, including outcomes of the standardized testing (if administered).
  • Discuss next steps & any potential treatment plans.
  • Receive a comprehensive written report of the assessment findings.

Types of Assessments

Before booking your assessment, we will give you an overview of the types of assessments we offer, listen to your reasoning for accessing an assessment, and make sure you are scheduling the right assessment to address your identified areas of strengths and needs.
