Getting Started

What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychological Associate?

Within Ontario, the primary difference between a Psychological Associate and a Psychologist is how training was received.

  • If training was conducted in Ontario, Psychologists are required to complete a Ph.D. or Psy.D. program and be supervised within their intended scope of practice for a minimum of one year.
  • By comparison, Psychological Associates are required to complete a master’s degree, undergo four years of clinical experience, and complete a minimum of one year of supervised work within their intended scope.

*Both are able to assess, treat, and diagnose.

How long does Therapy take?

As therapy is an individual process, the frequency and duration of treatment is different for everyone; therefore, at the onset of treatment, this is best determined between you and your clinician.

What is the process of being matched with a Clinician from your team?

Our goal in the Matching Process is to pair clients with a clinician that best suits their individual needs and goals, based on the information provided to us. By matching you thoughtfully with a clinician whose expertise, values, and style align with your needs, we can help you form a trusting, collaborative partnership—because that alliance predicts the real transformative work.

The Clinician Matching Process contains three to four steps:

  • Initial Intake: Complete the initial intake phone call with our administrative staff where they will collect preliminary information regarding your presenting concerns and treatment goals.
  • Matching Process: Intake information will then be provided to our clinical director who will match you with a member of our clinical staff that they consider to be the most appropriate fit for your profile and goals, based on the information you provided (unless a preferred clinician has been communicated during the intake).
  • Consultation: A complimentary 15-minute consultation will then be scheduled with the clinician to determine whether the match is a good fit.
  • Determining the Fit of The Therapeutic Alliance: This step has two paths. If you and/or the clinician feel the match is:

1. Not a good fit (ex. Based on new information shared that was not shared during the intake, and may be outside of the clinician’s scope of practice), you may contact our administrative staff to discuss another consultation with a different clinician.

2. Good fit, you may schedule the first session during the consultation or contact our administrative staff to do so.
